I love using light to tell a story. Light can be hard or soft, kind or harsh. It is always honest but it never judges.

When people allow me into their lives to take photos, they are asking me to use light to shape their story. The good thing about telling stories with pictures is that there is always space for the viewer to decide how to look at the result. I make the pictures. What they mean is up to you.

John Wright’s photography work is known for its quiet sensitivity to place and feeling. His photo-journalism has been published in magazines and newspapers, including the Bulletin, On the Road magazine and Leader Newspapers. His photo essay A Scarecrow at the Bottom of the Garden, recording the social divisions in inner suburban Melbourne, has been published in the award winning Griffith Review magazine in the May 2008 edition.

I see myself as an observer. There is no greater privilege than to be asked to record a moment in time, the fall of light on a particular landscape, on a much loved face, or on a special moment in people’s lives.

John Wright is available for corporate and family portraits, wedding photography, architectural work and landscape photography.

Based at the Clifton Hill Photographic Studio, John Wright also works on location as required.

John's contact details can be found on the Contacts page link at the top of this page.
